A friend of ours who is getting up in years used to be a very good accountant in his younger years. Now, he tells us, it’s all he can do to keep on top of the need to . calculate federal tax and he absolutely hates paperwork anymore. Considering that’s the way he always earned a living–doing paperwork for others–we know he’s starting to slip and lose the desire for all the accounting work. Now he needs someone to do his federal tax paperwork, we advised him.
But he hates when we say that and gets all defensive. He has papers scattered from here to eternity and a person can hardly even get in his house without sliding on all his papers on the floor. He is very proud, too proud to ask for help, so we’re afraid he’s going to be in arrears again with the government. Not a good situation to be in, for sure.
