Turron De Dona Pepa
Thursday, September 22nd, 2011In Peru the month of October brings the Festival of the Lord of the Miracles. This is the traditional time for the treat Turron de Doña Pepa to be enjoyed. This sweet anise flavored treat was said to originate from the black slave Josefa who later became known as La Doña Pepa. Legend has it that Josefa fell ill and her arms became paralyzed rendering her incapable of performing her duties. She was released from slavery and with no means of support decided to make a pilgrimage to the Lord of the Miracles to pray for healing. She fell to her knees and prayed to be healed and the Lord healed her and made her whole again. To honor and thank him she baked Turron de Doña Pepa and offered them to him as a gift. Every year after that during the Festival she was said to bake the treats and offer them to the faithful worshippers.

Making Sure You Eat Healthy Food
Sunday, September 4th, 2011Living in a big city is certainly a challenge and the biggest one is earning the money to pay for your expenses which takes time. The result is that time is money and we all try to make as much money as we can in the shortest possible time resulting in less time for the family. It takes time to go shopping and buy the groceries that you need in order to make a home cooked family dinner. Even if you did have the ingredients that you need at home it is going to take time to prepare the dinner. The result can be junk food as you stop in at the local take-out or drive-thru and pick up dinner for your family. They then eat frozen foods that are heated up to such high temperatures that there are no nutrients left in the food and you family get malnourished. There are qualified Gourmet chefs that can individually prepare a meal for you that is healthy, well balanced and tastes great. The best part is that Gourmet meals delivered to your front door will do all of this for less than half the price that it would cost you if you ordered that food in a restaurant, and that includes delivery.
Just Being Prepared
Saturday, August 27th, 2011We just like being prepared around here, well, at least I do. I know that, as the owner of a catering business, we always need our catering equipment to be ready, clean and dry! It is pretty frustrating when something that we need is dirty. That is certainly not something that we would like to look into at all. I know that having enough of everything helps too, because we might need to do one event after another. However, we only do a maximum of two events per day, so that’s just two sets of the things that we need the most. I’m trying to make my life a little easier by providing my employees with the items that they need. I know for sure that this is something that they appreciate too. Sometimes, it is just worth it for me to be able to invest in my company. It makes us more productive.
Gas Grills and Summer Time Cooking
Tuesday, June 21st, 2011Some people are somewhat reluctant when it comes to purchasing a new gas grill. They may be longtime barbecue fans but have a thing for using charcoal. It’s not uncommon for people to think that gas just doesn’t measure up when it comes to taste. But these days there are wonderful models on the market that will make all your barbecue dreams come true. Some of them will dispel the notion that charcoal grills are the only way to barbecue, especially when you experience the added convenience of being able to control temperatures. One of the major complaints of using charcoal in the past has always been how long it takes for the grill to warm up. You obviously can’t throw your food on right away, and you have no way of turning down the heat in case things get intense. Using gas grills however is a complete breeze and you can really limit to the amount of burned food you get during each cooking session. You also eventually save money by not having to buy charcoals each time you fire up your grill.
The thing to remember about cooking with gas grills is to add flavor beforehand. Depending on your grill, you will still get wonderful barbecue flavor infused into your food, but it always helps to add a various flavors that you really want to emphasize. Also make sure that you have an abundance array of side dishes because a barbecue is much more than just meet. While you are cooking up a storm on your grill, you should also take the time to prepare wonderful science that will complement your meal entirely. After all, it can be quite heavy to eat a meal consisting entirely of meat without some kind of balance that comes with vegetables and salads. Also take the time to make sure all of your equipment is clean before the process begins because that will really allow your barbecue to bring your favorite dishes to life.

Sunday, June 19th, 2011Considered to be an essential must have in every kitchen, pressure cookers have come to be of service starting in the year 1970′s when people discovered an easy way of tenderizing meat products. Since then, more and more homeowners and even professional cooks have come into the preference of cutting off tenderizing time through the use of this kitchen tool. However, some people today are still making use of the traditional tenderizing process where meat products are being boiled for as long as 8 hours at a maximum. Maple Syrup Recipes
Tuesday, May 3rd, 2011Where else can you use maple syrup? I have always been buying bottles of it but most often, it is for my kids as they just can’t eat their pancakes or waffles without some of it on top. I do love maple syrup as well but because I was getting tired of it, I tried giving my kids other options for their pancakes but they still prefer the maple syrup. We do have a couple more bottles at home as I bought it last month when the store was on sale. I am looking now for recipes where I can use the maple syrup and it is a good thing there are quite a number of recipes that needs it. I will be trying one this weekend and I really do hope my kids will like it. I can’t wait to try it and I’m sure they will help me in the kitchen as well.
A Clove Will Do It
Friday, April 15th, 2011By far, the easiest way to grow garlic is to Grow Garlic From a Clove. This is because the process is relatively straightforward, since a garlic clove has more food store as compared to garlic seeds, has the ability to germinate better than the seeds even in harsh circumstances and therefore offers a better chance of growth when put in the hands of a novice farmer or gardener. If we take a look at the process of growing garlic out of a clove, it is pretty much self sustained. All one has to do is to prepare a piece of land for it and then plant the garlic at least three inches beneath the soil and water it lightly. Care is to be taken not to peel the skin off the clove; otherwise it may end up in a rotten state. Growth is usually seen in a couple of weeks.
Why Did They Give Me a Charcoal Grill
Saturday, April 9th, 2011My husband and I are now the owners of the best charcoal grill on the market and we do not even know why this happened. My husband and I recently bought our first home and his parents gave us the grill as a house warming gift. They did not ask us if we wanted a charcoal grill or if we liked to cook and eat grilled foods. If they had asked, they would have found out that we are not the type of people that typically own charcoal grills. Granted, we do have a nice large patio in the backyard that is suitable for entertaining, but neither of us really likes the idea of standing over a hot grill to cook lots of food while our guests mingle and enjoy each others company. In addition, my husband and I do not really like the fact that most grilled foods have a distinct smell and taste to them that reeks of burnt wood or fuel.

My Love for Cupcakes Made Me Enrol in a Culinary School in Texas
Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011I love cupcakes especially the fancy cupcakes you see at the malls. They all come in different colours, flavours, designs and the tastes are simply divine. I am always in awe as some of them are intricate designs on such small cupcakes. Another thing that I find very interesting about the cupcakes is the texture – they are so soft when I bite into them! Because of how much I love cupcakes I decided to read up on how to bake cupcakes and I found some really good recipes online. However, I tried baking and failed miserably to get the same texture. So I am beginning to feel like I should attend some classes on how to bake and decorate the cupcakes or even cakes with icing made from butter cream or icing sugar. I started my research on culinary schools and I came upon one that suits me just fine and that is Texas culinary academy.
